PocketMoney Lite Won't Start

Postby krustythekroom » Sun Apr 15, 2012 1:50 pm

I have been using PocketMoney Lite on my iPod touch four about four months now, and all of a sudden it won't launch. The splash screen comes up, but then after a few seconds it kicks it back to the icons of the applications installed on my iPod. I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it with the latest version on iTunes, but it still does the same thing. I have confirmed that I'm running th latest version of the iPod software too. How can I get the application to run again?

Did you COMPLETELY delete it from both the iPod and iTunes?

1. First backup your PocketMoneyDB.sql file to your computer using iTunes File Sharing.
2. Delete PMiOS from the iPod.
3. Delete PMiOS from iTunes, saying Yes when it asks if you want to move the app to the trash.
4. If your iPod can connect to the App Store via WiFi, download and install a fresh copy that way. If not, get it via iTunes.
5. Once it is installed, try launching it before the next step.
6. If it launched OK, use iTunes File Sharing to Add the PocketMoneyDB.sql file saved in Step 1, telling it to replace the "newer" file that will be on the iPod.
7. Try launching PMiOS again.

Oh, you are running iOS 5.0.1 on the iPod?

Romad,

Thanks for the response.

I wasn't aware I had to completely delete it from both the iPod and iTunes. I'll try that tonight as I'm away from my home computer.

I'm running version 4.2.1 on my iPod. It's a third generation iPod Touch, and I believe that is the newest version of iOS that it will run. Does that cause a problem with anything?

iOS 5 will run on 3rd gen iPod Touch, and I definitely recommend the upgrade.

(I don't recommend the upgrade to PocketMoney 4 for now; I still run version 3.1.9 on all my iDevices.)

iTunes won't let me update to iOS 5. Any tips on how to force it?

Just curious as to why you choose version 3.1.9 over PocketMoney 4. Where can one find older versions of the software.

I have much to learn about my iPod, so please excuse my ignorance. I was a long time Palm user that recently converted.

Hi, Faterson

Pablo posted in another forum says that he received an email from Hardy stating that a new update has been submitted to Apple. I don't know if it just addresses the crashing under iOS 3.1.3 or if any thing else is included.

What is iTunes saying when you try to update? Also, go into the iPod Settings and see what it lists as the model identifier. Should be iPod 3,1

Do you also have the most recent iTunes version? From all I've ever heard, 3rd gen iPod Touch does support iOS 5. One of the chief benefits of iOS 5 is you can get rid of iTunes at long last.

PocketMoney Version 4 seems way too buggy for now to run, so I don't dare to upgrade. Just read these forums for the many bug reports. Your issue might be related to Version 4 bugs, too. Unfortunately, there is no way to downgrade, unless you manually saved the previous PocketMoney version from iTunes, or never synchronized with iTunes following the upgrade to PM 4, but it looks like you did that. :(

iTunes tells me that version 4.2.1 is the latest version. The Model listed in the iPod Settings is MB533LL.

I just double checked, and I was mistaken. It is a second generation iPod Touch. I see that version 4.2.1 is the latest version that will run on a Gen 2 iPod Touch.

Yes, that is right, you have a 2nd Generation and are limited to iOS 4.2.1. However, there is an update to PMiOS that has just been submitted to Apple for approval; wait about a week and see if it might fix your problem.

Romad,

I tried uninstalling from the iPod and iTunes, downloading a new copy from iTunes on my iPod and reinstalled. It is still not loading. The splash screen will come up for a couple seconds, but then it disappears. Any other thoughts?

Did you try the new PMiOS 4.0.2 that Hardy released to fix the crashing on older versions of iOS? Since 4.0.1 worked fine on iOS 5, but not on earlier ones, Hardy rushed out a fix and it was approved & released by Apple yesterday. So try that one. If that doesn't work then email support@catamount.com Better yet, get a 4th Generation iTouch!

I downloaded a new copy last night, but I'll try again per your instructions above.

If you have a 4th Gen iTouch to donate, I know someone that would love to take it!!

Sorry, I have an iPhone 3GS and an iPad 3, with an original iPhone as an emergency spare. I'll probably upgrade to the new iPhone when it is released later this year, then the 3GS will become the spare.
