PocketMoney 4.0.1

Postby HardyMacia » Thu Mar 29, 2012 11:58 pm

Version 4.0.1 of PocketMoney was submitted to Apple earlier today.

Fixes:
Bug fixed: you can view the budget by Year with category budget items set to Half-Year.
Bug fixed: editing budgets wasn't working in non-usd currencies
Bug fixed: nationwide's retina display icon
Change: Budgeted column shows the current budget for the month, if you want to see the rollover amount then toggle the column heading to Available

Here is a video walkthrough on how to fix the budget bug if you can't wait for Apple to approve 2.0.3.

Ah, did you even bother to read Hardy's post? He just submitted it yesterday, 29 Mar 12 to Apple. It takes Apple several days/weeks to review an app for approval. Patience, Grasshopper.

OK, got the update from the App Store and opened it up. Turned on weekly backup to iCloud. Performed a Backup to iCloud. So now what? I see where I can Restore from iCloud. Is there somewhere I can find this file and drag it to my desktop (like on iDisk where I could locate the file)? If I am using PocketMoney for Desktop, is there a restore from iCloud function? I only trialed the desktop version and no longer have it on my Mac. Don't know if there has been an update for it or not. Until there is an iOS version of Quicken I will still use PocketMoney, but I would really like to use it to add transactions while away from home, backup to iCloud, then restore from iCloud to Desktop, and finally import into Quicken. I'm not sure how to go about exporting from PocketMoney Desktop then importing back into Quicken, so a brief instruction here would be handy. If this is doable, I will purchase the Desktop version. If there is a way to just retrieve my backup from iCloud and import it into Quicken, this would be the best possible scenario.

I doubt you have 4.0.1; you probably have 4.0.0. I was just at the App Store 30 seconds ago and 4.0.1 hadn't been released by Apple yet.

As for an iOS version of Quicken, don't hold your breath. Intuit has not only said they will not release one, but they terminated Landware's license to sync to Quicken so that PocketQuicken on the old Palm and Microsoft devices could not be updated, much less there be an iOS version of PocketQuicken. I used to use PocketQuicken on my Palm PDA and loved it. When I learned about Intuit's intransigence, I went looking for something else and found PMiOS.

I don't want to add to the whining, as I thing PM is a fantastic app.

The only comment I would add is I think the PDF Documentation for the app needs an update at this point. I would say this is as important as all the other feature requests flying around.

There are a lot of features that have been added over time, and I don't spend a lot of time on this forum to keep up with all of them. Having an up-to-date User Manual would be an asset to existing customers as well as the many new customer's we all hope Hardy is able to get. There are so many options and choices now in the application that have no documentation on how they really work.

I can spend hours going through all the messages on this board to figure them all out, but I think an updated User Manual is something that should be available with every release that provides new functionality.

Just my .02.

A little like Philip Marlow would have said:"I took a whiskey, that didn't help. I took another, that didn't help either". I had the automatic upgrade to 4.0, and that made it unopenable on my iPhone, I waited and then upgraded to 4.0.1 - that didn't help either.

I'm running an iPhone 3G (not the 3GS)) with IOS 4.2.1, an an old iBook G4 with IOS Leopard - meaning absolutely no iCloud, and PM Light, so my concern - when I read your description of PM 4.0 was: Do I really need an iCloud for running PM, is that the reason I can't open it and get to all my financial data.

My Question:
Shall I just wait for the version 4.0.2, and then I can get to my financial data again and carry on? or do you rely so much on iCloud that I either have to buy a new iPhone or stop using PM Light?

Is there a way I can downgrade to the version before PM 4.0 (i.e. 3.1.9) ? Because I could live with that :-)

By the way - thanks for a nice little app :-)

As of 7:28 A.M. on April 4, 2012 California time, the only version of PocketMoney on the iTunes App Store is 4.0, released 26 March 2012, nine days ago. On 29 March 2012, six days ago, Hardy submitted PocketMoney 4.0.1 to Apple for review.

And the answer to downgrading, is pretty much "No" unless you did the following:

1. Upgraded to PMiOS 4.0 via the App Store app on your iDevice,
2. Did NOT with iTunes since Step 1,
3. Did NOT download PMiOS in iTunes.

Then you should be able to delete PMiOS from your iPhone, followed by syncing with iTunes to get PMiOS 3.1.9 reinstalled. Of course you will lose all data entered, unless you had previously backed up the PocketMoneyDB.sql file to your computer.

Yeah guess your right - for the US app store - when you say so.

Anyway, I downloaded version 4.0.1 from the Danish app store and installed it - and it didn't solve the problem.

The Danish app store has PocketMoney Lite 4.0.1, Updated 04 April 2012, and the bug Fix/What's new in Version 4.0.1 section says:
"Fix for budget/start up crash of users who had Half-year budget items"

My problem is: it didn't fix my start up crash, and I have never used Half-year budgets

So I guess there might be other issues as well - Sorry

I'll be holding out until Version 4.1 at least. So many serious bugs were reported about Version 4 that I doubt any 4.0.x update can possibly resolve them. And I just have no time for experimenting and Beta-testing.

Interesting that Apple released it on the Danish store before it was released on the U.S. store; probably because there are less apps for non-U.S. stores in the approval pipeline. And that is the precise reason Hardy said he was releasing 4.0.1

Just checked the U.S. store again and it is now available so I'm downloading it.

The lite version still crashes on startup on my ipod touch gen 2. Luckily I found version 3.1.9 on my backup drive, and that still works, so I reloaded it. Had to delete the 4.0.1 app and data though.

Hi.
I have installed the version 4.0.1.
Now I can not add or edit transactions.
I hope you soon make a FIX, this application is very important to me. Please !!!!!
It´s the second time that happens to me, and I'm thinking, no more updates after that works.
I have O.S. 3.1.3 (3G).
Thank you very much.

Pablo
