Problems with backup and restore from sd

Postby Tyniterrapin » Tue Dec 06, 2011 7:59 am

I just bought the full version of Pocket money for android v.1.2.1 and I love it except I can not backup and restore properly or export/import without importing duplicates.

First when I imported my backup file from the lite version to the full version several transactions were missing. I deleted all backups on my sd card and created anew one from lite and still the same missing transactions. I gave up and just re entered the missing transactions. I then deleted lite off my phone and created a new backup from the full version but when I try and restore a backup all my transactions are deleted. I have tried clearing all data and starting over and uninstalling the program clearing all data and reinstalling and still have the same issue.

I also tried exporting and importing but if I turn off import duplicates I receive an error msg saying the file is missing something. And if I leave it on besides doubling my transactions several are again missing from the register.

I love this program and will use it all the time if I can back up my data but without this feature working the entire program is a complete flop and waste of my time not to mention the money I paid for it. :(

Are you using the "Backup" or are you exporting a QIF/CSV/TDF file? The QIF/CSV/TDF aren't backup files they are file types to transfer some of the data from PM to and from other apps.

Backup and Restore Backup with the PocketMoneyDB.sql won't lose any transactions. It's the full database of transactions, accounts, lookups, filters, repeating transactions for PM.

I used back up to sd card and restore from sd card...it will restore the accounts I create but none of the transaction data. So every time I try and restore data I just have the accounts at zero balances.

I only tried import/export because I couldn't get backup/restore to work.

I uninstalled, cleared all data and tried again, and again... It appears I can restore the very first backup I make but every time I restore after that it restores that first backup I made. Even if I go delete the backup file before creating a new one.

This sounds like a job for Eric to look at then. Let me see if Eric can help.

Any news on this issue? I have tried over and over again and even tried backing up using email but no matter what I do it will not save a new backup it just sends the first backup file to the sd or email. I am really disappointed, I payed for this program but it is of no use if it can't be backed up and is looking to be a waste of my money.

The backup/restore works fine for me so it's not a functionality bug.

Is your SD card locked so files can't be saved to it?

No my sd card is not locked, it saves the first backup but won't make a second backup. No matter what I do it will only restore the first backup.

It never makes a second backup. The second backups replaces the first backup.

What Android device to you have? What version of the OS do you have on it?

Try this...

Right now you have a really old backup on your SD Card right?

Mount your android to your desktop and delete it from the SD Card. (/data/PocketMoney/PocketMoneyDB.sql)
Go into PMA and create a new backup.
Is the new backup of your current data? I'd copy to your desktop so you have a good backup there.
Then I'd modify some data in PMA and do another backup and restore to see if it is restoring the recent changes. (You might even want to go to Home > Settings > Manage Applications > PocketMoney > clear data so that you know if the restore is successful.

I have htc evo android 2.3

I tried that, it does not create a new backup with current data (or replace the first backup with new data), it is always the first backup I make after reinstalling. I've cleared all data and reinstalled several times, every time I can create a backup but not replace it with new data. Even if I go into my sd card and delete the first backup then create a new one.

Do you have your android device connected to your desktop with the USB file mounting? If so that could cause problems. Disconnect it when trying to do this. (You'll notice I'm grabbing at straws at this point, since I can't think of what else might be causing this.)
