You know, fritzmom, most users only learn about the need of having that backup when it's already too late! See the many desperate threads here. You can bet that most users will be unable to retrieve an older version of PocketMoney from their computers. You're completely correct about the need to back up everything all the time, but most people just aren't that rational when it comes to dealing with computers. Believe me, I partly work in the education sector, and you just can't rely on most users behaving rationally. Everything should be idiot-proof if possible, but iOS's way of handling upgrades/downgrades is anything but that.

Me too! Last year with the splits fiasco; which is why I'm sticking with PocketMoney 3.1.9 for the time being, probably until Version 4.1 at least, given the many bug reports in the forum.

FIX is now available.
For now it works fine.
Have a clear message that is the last release that supports OS 3.x
Thank you very much to Catamount Software.

I have updated from the app store Pocket Money Lite 4.0.2 and I still have the same problem with the program crashing after it starts. I know I am not alone with this problem, so I will patiently wait. Just want everyone to know how much I use and miss this great product. I just love it. Please fix this problem ASAP with keeping all of our data intacted. That would be greatly appreciated.

What iOS version are you using? No problem with iOS 5.1.

Please read the "Before You Post" thread and provide ALL pertinent information to help Hardy.

You've done a great job with the improvements, Hardy. Thank you for a great app.

Do you think we might have cloud syncing any time soon? That would make PM irresistible to anyone looking for a personal finance app.

Re: PocketMoney 4.0.3 - IT WORKS :-)

Postby pbusch » Fri May 11, 2012 4:52 am

Thanks Hardy - Now it works (again) :-)

After having startup crash problem in PocketMoney Lite version 4.0, 4.0.1, 4.0.2 - Now 4.0.3 works

I'm running iPhone 3 with iOS 4.2.1 (8c148) - and my PM Lite 4.0.3 starts alright and show me the correct balances on my accounts.

Thanks

Haven't been back to the forum in a few months, but yes, I do have 4.0.1. It was listed as an update on my iPhone that AM and I immediately updated and started using it. Since that time I have bought an iPad and tend to use it more often than the phone for PM since it's easier to see. The Backup-Restore function with iCloud works well, so I can now add entries on either device and keep both devices up to date.

Still looking for a way of keeping PM and Quicken synced since as you have pointed out, Intuit is ignoring iOS devices. So back to the “How To" question of syncing two iOS devices with PMD and Quicken. Since I only used the trial version of PMD I don't know how the current version works with iCloud backup. If it can indeed “sync" to my iOS devices using iCloud Backup/Restore, then I guess I could sync the PMD with Quicken thru iTunes, backup the PMD to iCloud, and finally restore from iCloud on both iOS devices. This will work fine for all transactions that I haven't recorded on any device and starting with a current Quicken online download. But this is only a one way syncing, or is there a way to import PMD to Quicken (assuming iOS file is more current)? I may be over looking something obvious, but it can sort of twist your head around trying to make three devices, two OS's, and three apps all talk to one another.

Just export a QIF: File>Export. Though if you are using PMD, then there isn't a need for Quicken (I stopped using it at the end of 2010).

And yes you have been away a long time; PMiOS is up to version 4.0.3, and PMD is up to 2.0.4 (but is now Intel-only).

Actually, I am at 4.0.3. Didn't realize I had done that many updates. Anyway, I still use Quicken because they finally made a Lion compatible version. Downloads are lightning fast now compared to older versions. I have used Quicken for so many years now that I can't remember (all the way back to Apple IIGS). I have always tracked my investments with it and no other financial software I have tried compares with how it handles investments. That being said, I want portability so I have turned to PM. I use it only for bank accounts and do not keep my investment accounts on it. Quicken is irreplaceable to me at this time not only for investment tracking but also for online bill pay. Its closest competitor (for Mac anyway) is iBank. Unfortunately iBank is lousy for investments and doesn't support online bill pay, unless you want to go to the trouble of doing bill pay on your bank's web site, then downloading transactions to iBank. On the plus side, their interface is terrific (truly Mac-like) and they have an iOS version. So for me, I will continue with Quicken on my MacBook, and PM on my iOS devices. Bill pay and track investments with Quicken, and use PM (since it's always with me on my phone or pad) when I am not home and want to check balances, add transactions from stores, restaurants, etc. I'm just looking for the smoothest way of keeping the two apps synced. I may have to give PMD another try to see if can be the go between for Quicken and PM for iOS.

I stopped using Quicken because it had become very unstable in Leopard, always crashing randomly. Thank goodness Hardy released PMD.
