PocketMoney for Desktops - 1.0.0a2

Postby HardyMacia » Wed May 10, 2006 2:03 pm

The changes in 1.0.0a2 are:
bug fixed: NilObjectException was not handled when double clicking transaction
bug fixed: transactions mod/added places in correct position in transaction list
bug fixed: decoding prefix/suffix so € is imported correctly from palm - added encoding popup in Prefs. Default should be WindowsLatin1
bug fixed: PM no longer opens the account window in the middle and then moves it to the top-left.
bug fixed: currency symbol expanded from 1 to 3 characters
UI change: Open uses select folder instead of select file
UI change: Account and Transaction lists don't use focus ring and are width of window

You can download PocketMoney for Desktops here:
* Mac OS X version
* Windows version
* Linux version (requires GTK 2.2)

Will you be re-releasing the OSX desktop app?

I think the links changed....

Windows:
http://www.catamount.com/packages/Windo ... ey_Win.zip

Mac:
http://www.catamount.com/packages/Macin ... ey_OSX.zip

Linux:
http://www.catamount.com/packages/Linux ... _Linux.zip

Development is currently in a stand still on the desktop app. It needs a lot of polish still on the user interface. But once PocketMoney and MPG are released on the iPhone, then I'll get back to PocketMoney on the desktop.

Doesn't launch for me

Postby ahanton » Tue Jan 01, 2008 1:37 pm

The windows version brings up a splash screen, but it seems to hang before opening the main window. Is this a known issue? I'm also curious why the forums for the software are private. The initial announcement said to post feedback in the forum, but it isn't possible.

They were private back when it was a closed beta for the desktop version. I also switched around forum software a couple times, and have returned to this software and board. I've opened the forum to all registered users.

I'm not sure about the bug with the windows version hanging on open. I'll have to look into it, but right now I'm focused on the iPhone version.

really awesome

If you get it working. But two things are essential:

1) synching between the desktop and the handheld

2) the ability have graphic views of budgets/balances/spending (e.g., graphs, pie charts, etc.

Hi Hardy!

I'm intending to use pocketmoney to categorize my expenses
and get a sense of how much I'm spending in each category.

I've got a lot of receipts and would be fine with using
pocketmoney in conjunction with a desktop app. I use a mac.

I want to put in my expenses on the iphone or on the
desktop and get some reports about where the heck
my money is going.

What is your recommendation?

Should I go ahead and use "Pocketmoney for Desktops"?

Or should use syndics to import and restore .QIF files and
use something like Quicken?

Thanks for all your hard work on these apps. Great stuff.

Best,
Dmitri

PM for desktops reports will be limited in version 1.0 when it is released. (PM 3.0 for iPhone will have much more extensive reports, but it will take some time for the desktop app to catch up with it.) You can try Quicken (QIF file export) or a spreadsheet (TDF/CSV file exports), it depends on what kind of reports you are looking for. I don't find reports in Quicken to be anymore useful than the reports generated in PM. I stopped using Quicken about 10 years ago and only use PM now to generate all of the reports I need for taxes and whatnot.

Thanks for your advice. I'm not particularly a quicken fan either.

I may have missed it here, but do you have an ETA on PM for desktops or for Iphone 3.0?

Not to pressure! Just trying to make plans. :-)

PM for desktops should be available end of November/early December.

The same for 3.0 for iPhone. I still have 2 weeks of work to do and then it needs to go through apple's review process.

Now, as the former ETA (december 2009) went flat wrong, are you able to confirm a new one?

We're on the same side, as my words are justified only by my craving for your lovely products; so, don't get me wrong :)

Hi Hardy, any news on the ETA for Pocket Money for Windows desktop? The iPhone appis brilliant and a desktop version that I can sync to would complete the package beautifully.
