Gary Johnson Smokes New Hampshire’s Tuckerman Ravine

Monday, May 2nd, 2011

I haven’t posted off topic items to my blog in a long time, but I got to go snowboarding with presidential candidate Gary Johnson at Tuckerman Ravine in NH a couple weekends ago. Outdoor Magazine wrote an article about it and included my (poorly edited) video of the day, too.

Email/Server/Forum status

Emails:

I’m trying to catch up on the emails, but I’m a few days behind now. Please be patient, or post to the user forums where others might be able to help you out or your question might have already been answered.

Server:

I had to switch hosts for catamount.com. My old host had been having issues for a few months and wasn’t doing anything to correct the problems on their end. Almost every day catamount.com was slowing to a crawl and the host company was rebooting the server. It wasn’t due to an increased demand on the server by catamount users, but some other issues with their servers. Hopefully, the new host will be more responsive to fixing things when they aren’t working.

Forums:

Due to the server switch over today there might have been a few messages lost which were posted to the forums on the old host while the server change propagated through all of the name servers. Please repost to the forum again. (You won’t be able to post to the forums on the old server any longer which is how you can tell if you are on the old or new server.)

Donate to my State Rep campaign

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010
I’m running for State Representative in New Hampshire. New Hampshire is interesting in that it has one of the largest legislative bodies in the world with 400 state representatives, and legislators only get paid $100 per year. The election is in November.

My goal is to use my 17 years of experience of personal financial experience related to PocketMoney to Concord to help get the state back on the right track financially.

Please make a donation to my campaign now to help me reach out to all the voters in my district.

Rant coming…

When I added ads to CheckPlease LITE  I had the same complaints so I knew it was coming, but CheckPlease LITE customers have gotten over it, and I’m now making a reasonable revenue off the ads in CheckPlease.

Does Apple have a large backlog of apps to review of iOS 4.0 – wait to upgrade?

Saturday, June 19th, 2010

Typically my apps get into the “In Review” queue within an hour, and then take 3-5 days to get approved. CheckPlease was submitted on June 16th and is still in “Waiting for Review”.

I didn’t get to submit PocketMoney 3.0.6 until tonight which includes urgent fixes for the keyboard compatibility with iOS 4.0. So if you are a PocketMoney user, you should definitely hold off on upgrading to iOS 4.0 until after PocketMoney 3.0.6 is approved. Otherwise you will be forced to copy and paste your decimal point into your amount field in order to enter your transactions.

Now to contrast Apple’s AppStore process with the Android Marketplace. We had our first Android app submission today (that our intern Ross wrote). When we submitted CheckPlease it was immediately available on the Android Marketplace.

Full up on beta testers

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

I’m all set on beta testers for PocketMoney for iphone/ipad. Thanks to everyone who has contacted me.

Apple only allows developers to have 100 spots so it’s a hard limit of the number of devices that I can add to the beta test pool.

Need beta testers with multiple iphone/ipod/ipad

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

I’m looking for some beta testers that want to use PocketMoney to sync two devices together. iPhone to iPhone, iPhone to iPad….

I will need the UDID from all of the devices you want to test on. You can test on three if you have three.

email support@catamount.com with your details.

“Failed to load NSMainNibFile MainWindow”

Friday, April 9th, 2010

I was porting CheckPlease to the iPad, and when I tried out the German localization I got a black screen with error “Failed to load NSMainNibFile MainWindow” in the debug console.

I’ve been localizing my apps since the first release and typically never have an issue.

Googling didn’t find an answer, but I finally discovered the problem.

I had created a new project for CheckPlease for iPad. By default it set “Localization native development region” to English, which is well and good since that is where I am, but I use the “en.lproj” naming standard for adding xibs to my project. When the user sets their device to another language it will look in the en.lproj folder for the xib file if there isn’t a xib in their language’s lproj folder.

So “English” versus “en” was the issue. I set “Localization native development region” to “en” and everything is working again.
