Here are the list of bugs and gripes that I’m hearing the most of between 2.4.1 and 3.0. I’ll update the post to include that status of the issue, and plan on getting most of these fixed for a 3.0.1 submission to Apple tomorrow.
1. Budget view by Year isn’t working. (fixed for 3.0.1)
2. CHF currency not saving the Amounts. Temporary workaround is to enter the transaction amount on the “Exchange Rate Screen” (even if no currency conversion is needed). (fixed for 3.0.1)
3. Slowness when launching. (fixed for 3.0.1)
4. Restore checkboxes instead of using binder rings.(fixed for 3.0.1 — added as part of themes)
5. QIF files not importing. (fixed for 3.0.1) (Work around is to go into PM Prefs > Managed Lists > Add new items to lists set to OFF, and import the QIF file)
6. Red for withdrawal amounts and Black for deposits.(fixed for 3.0.1 — added as part of themes)
7. CSV files not exporting or emailing. (fixed for 3.0.1)
8. The Google Pie Chart has been replaced with the new in app Pie chart and was not supposed to be part of the Summary Charts package for Net Worth, Cash Flow and Account wide Pie and Bar chart reports, but still be part of the base PocketMoney package. (fixed in 3.0.1)
9. Budget expenses not appearing on the 31st of the month for monthly, bi-monthly, quarterly, and half-year periods. (fixed for 3.0.1)
10. Shorter rows so more data fits on the screen.(fixed for 3.0.1 — added as part of themes)

CheckPlease the most downloaded tip calculator on the AppStore is now available for the iPad for $0.99.
Like the new version so far! Pretty polished! Thank you!
I like the finer print of the typeface.
The binder rings are getting used to but now I like them more than the checkboxes!
Thank you and keep up the good work!
Now that I have downloaded 3.0 I no longer get totals for accounts in the main screen. The totals show up when I enter each account.
I think you might have had the balance set to show “available credit” which is why the balances were all 0. Tapping the balance bar will toggle through the balance types available. (Current Balance, Future Balance, Cleared Balance, and Available Credit)
Your Software is great, but with the last update two things are changed in a not so efficient way.
If i go to an account, the overview always run to the the last entry (date). In the old version the overview jumped always to the entry with the actually date. (if you have a “forcast” maybe over 90 days.. you have always to scroll back to the actually date for a while).
The fine print of the typeface is great, but it is so much space between the different rows, so the overview of all entrys are not so good as in the last Version.
And the checkboxes gives you a better overview which entry is done, the rings are so light.
I have not updated to 3.0 yet and I love PocketMoney but my major issue is with scrolling my entries. The scrolling sucks. Please fix the scrolling function. Please don’t blame it on the length of the entry list because I use more apps than I can count and some apps scroll lists 10 to 20 pages long without performance degradation. Please fix the scrolling feature. I think issues with basic features require attention first over cosmetic changes or added functionality, but everybody loves the eye candy.
As far as cosmetic changes during updates like the replacement of the check boxes with colored ring binders. Well, us users become accustomed to the way an app looks when we use it multiple times a day and when you update this app 3 or 4 months later it really knocks us out of our comfort zone. It would be nice if you could have a toggle built into the settings page for visual changes, like this, so that you could please both sides of the fence.
One more thing I understand that this is a business and you are trying to earn a living but every time a developer drops the price of an app it’s like telling all of people who have already purchased that app, (at the higher price), that they are “Suckers”.
I’m not trying to be a dick but in the last 3 months the price of PocketMoney has changed 10 times and the variances in price, for the life of this app, range from 9.99 to .99. Traditional goods and services don’t fluctuate that much. I, myself happily purchased PocketMoney for 4.99 and I know that when it came out it was 9.99. I thought I got a good deal until I saw the .99 cents price sticker. I wonder what the people, who paid 9.99 think. I know that it’s only a couple of dollars but in todays economy, every dollar counts.
Well I guess after that rant I’ll never get the scrolling issue resolved! PocketMoney is a great app though.
Joe

Joe,
Arggh, I had a long reply and this blog software just lost it.
3.0 fixed the scrolling in the transaction register. There is another speed issue though so you will want to wait for 3.0.1 so I can fix the speed issue during app launch.
AppShopper wasn’t around on release day when PM was $29.99 so it’s ranged from $29.99 which is what I’ve charged on all the other platforms (actually I charged $40 on the Newton) to $0.99.
Thanks for listing the dates and price changes. I didn’t keep track of them, but I do have a revenue chart and overlaying the price drops it really shows the revenue boosts that the sales creates.
Some users will feel ripped off. I can’t help that. I could feel ripped off when Breyer’s Ice Cream goes on sale at my local super market, but I don’t. If I want it I buy it and I enjoy it. A half-gallon of ice cream costs as much as PocketMoney on the iPhone and now where near as useful.
If you notice the price history, the price didn’t change in the first 9 months. (I dropped the price to $9.99 on the first day since no other apps were any where near $30). I wasn’t playing all the games that some developers were playing with sales and updates every two weeks to stay on the recent release list. After I released 2.0 I decided to try a sale, and I was amazed at the results. There was some price fluctuation to figure out a price that would balance staying in the top 20 list and generating sufficient revenue to pay the bills. The price/revenue isn’t linear it drops after a while at any price you have an app priced at. December I planned on lowering the price to move up from 10th to the top of the charts in time for xmas day to guarantee I got there I set the price to $0.99 assuming the additional bump at xmas would be worth the trade off of loss of revenue to get up to the #1 spot in order to be high in the chart the week after xmas.
Part of the issue with the number of sale is the way APPLE designed the top 20 ranking for the AppStore.. It’s based on Quantity and not Revenue which is why you see so many $0.99 apps and the race to the bottom for apps that are typically $20-$30 apps. If they had the top 20 based on revenue and not quantity then developers wouldn’t have to play as many games with sales just to make sure we stay on the top 20 chart.
So sales are a good marketing tool. Especially with sites like AppShopper that funnel users who are looking for deals. They might never buy an app at full price, but put it on sale and a small frenzy starts. Yet you can’t keep the price at $0.99 to keep the top spot in any category because eventually the revenue drops off. But even a $1.99 app benefits from going on sale — BillMinder did it over xmas and bumped them up to #1 after I raised the PM price back up a a bit.
My first draft that I lost of this post was better, but it’s now 5am and I need to go to bed so I can get some sleep and finish up 3.0.1.

Hi
I find a bug – switching screens between accounts and budgets in landscape view. second screen is in wrong direction.
Thanks for Update 3.0! I just wanted to cheer for the new design. I like it a lot. Of course changes like that can be a little annoying at first since you get used to an old style and interface. But you usually get used to it real quick.
The price changes never bothered me but I do think it’s an issue for a lot of people. So thanks for the detailed answer.
I’m looking foreward to 3.0.1, as I can’t save my amounts for now.
But keep up the good work!
Caroline
I like the new upgrade b/c it looks nicer!
It’s runs a bit slow on my 1G ipod touch, but i’m guessing it can’t be helped.
One problem I’ve run into…
Any entry for today’s date (December 31, 2009) does not show up in the Budget>Category view.
I can see it if I look under the appropriate Account though. When I checked out the filter within the category, it appeared to be automatically setting the date to “1 Dec to 30 Dec.”
Help!
Another annoying bug is when I enter a transcation for December the 31, it doesnt show up on budget at all! When I change the transaction to something else like 20/12 it’s displayed just fine!! (at least on Lite version, dunno if thats a problem for the paid one)
Great app though!
Any idea when 3.0.1 hits appstore?
Tim and Capusr5,
Thanks for the bug report on the budgets for the 31st of the month. I’ve fixed this bug for 3.0.1.
http://bugs.catamount.com is a better place to report these sorts of things so they get into my bug tracking system.

Caroline,
If you use the exchange rate worksheet as a workaround you can enter swiss amounts.
I’ll be submitting 3.0.1 tonight or tomorrow and then will take 7-14 days to get approved by Apple.
Hardy
I have a 3gS and the previous version used to startup faster.
Could you please update to make the new version launch faster.
Thank you.
Lenny,
I’m working on it for the 3.0.1 release.
Hardy
We love the new version! btw, noticed the mention of going back to checkboxes instead of binder rings… will there be an option to keep the binder rings? We actually like that. (theme, perhaps?)
The option to show checkboxes will be added to Themes. The binder rings are going to remain the default.
When will 3.0.1 hit the app store? If I buy 3.0 now will I get a free upgrade? Is the upgrade automatic or or would I have to do something to initiate that? How would I know when the upgrade is available?
Dave,
I haven’t submitted 3.0.1 to Apple yet. I plan on doing it tomorrow. It takes Apple 7-14 days to approve updates. It will be a free upgrade. You’ll know when the upgrade is available because the AppStore icon on your Home screen will have a red badge on it. Whenever it has a red badge is means there are updates available for your apps. Tap on AppStore, tap on Updates, then Update All.

Hi,
Overall I like the new (3.0) version, but can you clarify if there is a general slowness problem, and not just with the startup. I’m finding that scrolling account items is noticeably slower, and entering text such as payee name I have to go slower (often I can see multiple keyboard taps being displayed at once).
I’ve got used to the spiral cleared/uncleared change, but can you make the spacing between items smaller, so that more transactions can be seen on the screen? Or, should I be looking at some sort of theme purchase to get that back?
Great product though, I haven’t used MS money for months
Hello Hardy,
Thank you for creating Pocket Money. I did quite a bit of research into all the different finance apps and this one has by far the richest functionality with a decent user interface to boot. I tried a 2.x version of Pocket Money Lite and when I deciced to buy was pleasantly surprised with version 3.0 and the new price point.
Today is the first day of the new year and I was planning to setup Pocket Money, get all my accounts added and create some budgets. When I tried to work with the application today though it was unworkable as it does not save any amount that I type in. My currency is set to Euro and my regional settings (if they are relevant) are set to Dutch. I am assuming that will be fixed in 3.0.1?
This seems like a huge bug to me (it renders the software completely useless) and I have to admit that it has shaken my confidence in the app a bit. It takes a lot of effort to set things up and I want to make sure that the application is dependable and correct in its reporting. It is a shame that now I am already set back for the new year and have to keep a shadow list of my transactions for till 3.0.1 becomes available.
Is there any way I as a user can help to make sure that this doesn’t happy again?
Kind regards and a great 2010!
Hans
When exporting QIF Files it tells me it was successful then another message comes on tells me PUTT ErrorReceived error code 400. Then I look in my syncdoc download folder and nothing is downloaded. Can’t import into Quicken.
Peter,
Are you using the web browser to transfer data? Please file a bug at http://bugs.catamount.com or email support@catamount.com so I can follow up with you on this directly.
Hardy
Andrew,
• I’m still looking in to the startup slowness.
• I’m not seeing any difference between 2.4 and 3.0 on scrolling the account screen.
• The payee entering is slower because I added a 1/2 second delay before trying to auto lookup the matching transaction. The idea was so you could enter “Wal” quickly and it wouldn’t try to lookup after each of the three letters. I’ve worked on this for version 3.0.1 and I think I’ve solved most of the issues.
• The search bar will still have the 1/2 delay before doing the query.
• I’m going to add short rows and normal rows into Themes for 3.0.1 so users that want short rows back (or red withdrawals or checkboxes) can get them back.

Hans,
I can put you on my beta list. I have some spots open. I just need you to email me (support@catamount.com) your UDID.
Part of the issue with the currencies is that I’m supporting all currencies in the world and although I have beta testers from several countries, I don’t have all the countries covered. It turns out that CHS (Swiss francs) is one of the most peculiar currencies to deal with so I did add a swiss beta testers for 3.0..1.

also, I had some mystery entries show up. Very weird.
My biggest annoyance is how long your log screen stays on. I want to open the app, input my info, and be done. I LOVED the last version. This one, not so much. Thanks for going in and tweaking. Hopefully in the end, it’ll be even better (the addition of photo receipts is awesome)
Another great feature that I don’t think exists would be to be able to export all info in all accounts at one time, rather than account by account. My phone crashed recently and because I’d only been backing up my 2 primary accounts (my bad) I lost some key info. The restore worked great, though, it did lose the “cleared” info.
Julie,
You can export all of your accounts at one time – been able to since version 1.2 or so. From the Account Balances screen export your data. Even better for backup purposes would be to choose to Backup to desktop.
Still working on the speed issue. I found the problem, but not sure how to fix it yet. Seems to be a iPhone 3.0 change in the OS’s launching of my app that is causing my issue. Still looking into it.

Hi,
I can’t enter any data in Canadian dollars. Would you correct this in your next release 3.0.1 Pocketmoney
Regards
There really is too much space between account. In 2.4, 7 account were viewable before scrowing down. Now 6 account are only viewable. If the empty space between account was remove, I beleive there could be atleast 9 account viewable before scowing down. Maybe there can be an option on how many accounts can be viewed before scrowing down and/or an option to remove icon before account to have more account viewable on a page before scrowing down.
I’m going to add row height to Themes so you can pick short rows or regular rows.
Hi, bug report here but i’m not sure how to post it on the link that you provided, i haven’t seen this bug fix in your list so i wish this can be fixed as well.
When i filtered out all the last month transcations (Dec), create category report, category involving transcations entered on dec 30, 31 are not showing up in the category report, as such, the category report’s Expenses (+/-) is not the same as the Filtered Balance where it shows all the transcation. The same happened on Jan 1 as well.
Appreciate your effort to fix the bugs.
Henry,
Thanks. I was able to reproduce your bug report, and it will be fixed in 3.0.1.
Hardy
Hi! Like the new pocketmoney layout but the total amount for each account doesn’t show up in the main window now… it just shows $0.00. Hope there’s a bug fix soon.. Thanks!
Mels,
Tap on the balance in the balance bar at the bottom. Switch it from Available Credit/CLeared Balance to Current Balance or one of the other options.
Hardy
I agree with al these issues. The great thing about the app was how speedy it was, I could quickly add purchases right away, but now its slow as hell and extremely inconvenient. Is it just me or did the binder rings make everything smaller? the one change that I noticed that is a big plus is if you’re editing a transaction and you have to change the date, that calendar is SO MUCH better than the spinners in previous versions. Thanks for listening!
Hi, I have posted an issue in the main forum to do with the Available Credit balance which since 3.0 this is not working and always shows £0.00. Others have confirmed this is also an issue for them. Can you please confirm if this will be addressed in the next patch release.
Keep up the good work with this fantastic app!
Thanks.
Version 3.0.1 will have balance options for “Available Credit” and “Available Funds”. “Available Funds” will work just like the Available balance did in version 2.4.1

Speed issue will be fixed in 3.0.1.
The 3.0 version is a great improvement. I have finally stopped using SplashMoney on my old Treo, after 5 years !
Hopefully, the aforementioned bugs will be fixed quickly. Most notably the speed issue which makes it a drag to use.
I now have money set aside, for a desktop app that will sync OTA and provide with more reporting capabilities.
Congrats.
Did you know Korean won (krw) currency doesn’t appear correctly in 3.0?
I’m not sure whether it is is bug or your bug.
Anyway, it is very anoying when I use it even bought it.
Please fix it.
Thanks
Jehun,
Version 3.0.1 fixes it. I had to work around an iPhone OS bug with KRW.
Hardy
Hello Hardy,
First, thanks for all your efforts!
Now I would just like to point out a few things in the new version (3.0) that were actually working correctly in the earlier version.
1- When I go to Filters, and pick one of my saved filters, it now shows the main accounts view before displaying results. This is a very minor thing, but thought I’d mention it anyway.
2- Picking a filter, and then choosing Reports > Category Report results in displaying the high level categories only. And I only have three main categories and numerous sub-categories. So I would actually like to see the transactions divided amongst the sub-categories too (even sub-sub-categories). ALSO, if I choose for example a filter that displays this weeks transactions, the Category Report presents those for this month (I guess this is because my default budget view uses a monthly period?).
That’s all for now. Happy new year, and thanks for all your efforts!
When I do a category report not all categories are reported or in the pie chart.
Yet in the budget they show.
Peter,
Are some of the report line items unselected? There is a bug in the reports where items won’t show up on dec 31st. – fixed for 3.0.1
Hardy
1.Due to the iPhone OS 3.0 changes I had to make the filters active this way for some reason.
2.The main report reports main categories and subtotals up all of the subcategories. If you drill down into the Food category then you can run another category report to view the food, food:dining, food:groceries… breakdown.
PS : Peter,

Ok, thanks Hardy.
Although if we may vote, then I\’d say I like the older way more!
Thanks anyway!
