PocketMoney 3.0 has been submitted to Apple for review.
Version 3.0 is a major update of PocketMoney.
We focused on improving the user interface and reports/charts to make it prettier and easier to use.
We added the highly requested email backup and web browser based file transfer options in addition to SyncDocs.
Overdraft accounts will automatically create a transfer from your overdraft account to current account when your balance drops below zero.
Reports display counts and percentages, and have a period picker to make viewing reports based on time quicker and easier. Reports also tally up subcategories into their parent category.
Added icons for most of the major banks around the world.
New QIF Option Export for MS Money users to split QIF files up into individual accounts.
The 3.0 update also includes speed improvements, bug fixes, and other features often requested by users.
PocketMoney Charts Add-on:
Includes Net Worth and Cash Flow summary charts to give you an overview of where you stand financially. Pie charts are built-in, pretty, and no longer require Google Charts. Shaking your device will show and hide charts. (Requires In-App Purchase to unlock the charting features.)
PocketMoney Themes Add-on:
Enable Themes for a wider variety of colors and fonts. Color themes include Money Green, Silver Bullion, Royal Purple, and Coffee. (Requires In-App Purchase to unlock the theme features.)
PocketMoney Photo Receipts Add-on:
Never lose a receipt again. Attach up to 3 photos to each transaction. Store the receipt, warranty, image of the purchase, or whatever. Receipts can be saved to your photo album or emailed. (Requires In-App Purchase to unlock the photo receipts features.)

CheckPlease the most downloaded tip calculator on the AppStore is now available for the iPad for $0.99.
Awesome update, can’t wait. I am curious about the “Requires In-App Purchase to unlock ****.” What will be the price and do I have to purchase each item seprately or all at once? Thank Hardy!!
You will have to purchase each separately, but it should be as simple as clicking buy and clicking confirm once you’ve signed in with iTunes.
Photo Receipts – $0.99
Themes – $0.99
Charts – $4.99
Awesom!!! Totally going to buy the Charts and Photo receipts immediately upon arrival of 3.0!! Thanks!
Long waiting update! Hope it would be released soon!
However, the price for chart is seemed overpriced than other two in-apps purchase options.
4.99 is already equal to the original price of PM.
Great news !
Could you be so kind and post some screenshots of v 3.0 ?
Haven’t managed to find anything in the forums.
Apart from the aesthetics (which I find very important), I am also concerned about the speed improvements? Is v 3.0 significantly faster than the current one on iStore?
regards from Greece
The original price of PocketMoney was $30. Then I dropped it to $10 due to the competitions pricing. Then I dropped it to $5 with occasional $2/$1 sales so to keep it in the top twenty ranking because Apple ranks by quantity sold, not by revenue. I’m not sure how the pricing will work out after 3.0 with the in app purchases. I might lower the chart pricing some, but I also might just keep it at $5. I’d like to make $10 overall on PM per copy sold, but still keep it in the top 5 on the charts so I’m trying to figure out ways to do that.
3.0 is a little faster, but not significantly. It takes the iPhone about 2 seconds to launch even basic apps. PM has always launched in 3 seconds, unless you are opening an account register with several thousand records then it will take 5-6 seconds (the fix for this is to turn off the Current Balance/Running Balance option on the Transaction Register’s View Options.) There were some major speed improvements that only a small percentage of users will see — if you use multiple currencies and have a lot of accounts that lookup the exchange rate when PM is launched, then this is significantly faster. Scrolling in the transaction register is significantly faster.
I’ll get some screen shots up. I’m working on rewritting the user manual, creating a feature list, recreating the video tutorials.
Thank you so much for your prompt response.
Yes, scrolling in the transaction register is my main concern, regarding speed.
It’s great to know that it has been tackled.
I just have posted a 4 star review in the Greek appstore, and as stated there, it amazes me that my obsolete Treo is significantly faster than the iPhone, in many respects. Coming from the Treo with thousands of records in Splashmoney, I find it odd that a few dummy records in PocketMoney iPhone, can make the app sluggish. (I also tested PcketMoney for Palm and is also blazing fast).
Having, however, seen that many competitive financial iPhone apps are even slower than PocketMoney, I understand that there is much to hold against Apple and not the devs.
It further amazes me, that the newest smartphone platform has the worst syncing approach than all of the others. making desktop companions something of an adventure for every developer.
This is my last gripe, regarding the app. A desktop companion that will seamlessly and without thoughts & concerns (much like Palm, PPC) sync my data to my Mac. I believe this is a must for most users, for many reasons: safety, further data manipulation, mass data management, this warm feeling of not having your most important data locked-in a mobile app, etc.
Eager for those photos of v 3.0 !
Thank you for your hard work. You really have the most-thought out financial app in the appstore.
This gives me great confidence in the future development of PocketMoney.
Rest assured that I will happily pay desktop-price (and praise in every forum) for a desktop companion that is aesthetically mac-like and seamless.
regards
Kostas
Kostas,
Yes, there is a big speed issue on the iPhone. The iPhone 3gs makes it less of an issue for basic apps. But yeah on my Palm, PocketMoney opens instantly. Although part of that issue is that I’m caching the balances so they don’t get recomputed, and on the iPhone I do realtime queries so it’s doing a lot more work. I went with the realtime queries because they are cleaner (less bug prone) and were pretty darn fast (1 second for all 50 of my accounts).
The syncing is terrible. I had hoped Apple was going to give us a nice sync solution with iPhone 3.0, but they didn’t. iTunes does backup all of your data in PocketMoney so you shouldn’t have to worry about what happens if you lose your phone or dip it in the pool.
“desktop companion that is aesthetically mac-like and seamless” – the first priority is the seamlessness so user can sync and having functionality close to PM on the iPhone. The aesthetics will be something that will be worked on in the following release.
I’m a Korean PM user. Since I have used PocketMoney, it has many problems for Korean users.
PM sometimes doesnot support Korean Currency. If I select KRW in Home Currency, it shows like “X” in the box. In case of selecting KPW, it shows Korean Won.
Jung,
I think PocketMoney version 3.0 will fix this issues with the Korean Won. Also make sure you have the current version of the OS installed on your iphone/ipod. I’ve been reporting bugs with the iPhone’s OS’s handling of the KRW for the last 18 months. Apple told me they fixed it once, but I still saw issues with it.

Just spent a day playing with version 3.0 and it’s looking very good. It’s taken a bit of time to get used to all the changes but everything makes sense and there are some very useful additions. It does seem a bit faster and scrolling is better.
My only problem is legibility of coloured type. The app now uses much smaller type across all account lists, registers and reports. This is fine when it’s coloured Black, but some other colours are not so easily readable,
In the accounts list, the positive balances are in Green and the negative ones in Black. Could this go back to Positive=Black and Negative=Red? It makes more sense in terms of “being in the black/red” and the Red colour is actually much easier to read than the Green in the new tiny type.
The add-ons look really interesting, and hopefully there will be many more new features added this way in the future. But can we see some screenshots on this website? I just want to see what I’m paying for.
Keep up the good work, guys
Working on the screen shots. Apple approved the app faster than I was expecting.
I looked at doing the red & green, but all that red made it hard to spot the red when it was used for a warning like when your balance falls below 0. So I decided to handle the colors similar to Mint.com – black for withdrawals and green for deposits, and red for balance warnings.
Hallo

Nun kann ich nicht mehr buchen. Der Betrag wird nich übernommen. Alles andere geht.
