Friday, January 22nd, 2010

“If you want to manage all of your finances on your iPhone, PocketMoney is the app for you. It supports multiple accounts and acts as a simple check register, but also includes the ability to create and manage budgets and allows you to get a good overview of your spending with attractive charts. You can also export your data to back it up or import data from a desktop application.”

Where did Red Withdrawals go in PocketMoney 3.0?

Friday, January 15th, 2010

I’ve gotten the question where did red withdrawals from several users so I thought I’d explain the reasoning behind removing them.

The reasoning withdrawals are black and deposits green is that items displayed in red are meant to be warnings to the user that something is going wrong. When you exceed your budget amount the bar is red. Whenever your account is over the limit or falls below the minimum balance the running balance and overall balance is displayed in red. Red is used sparingly, and as a warning. If you see red then something needs correcting.

I picked green for deposits because users typically have fewer deposits than withdrawals so the green does stick out among the black withdrawals if you are scrolling your transaction log looking for deposits.

PocketMoney 3.0.1 update (part 2)

Monday, January 4th, 2010

I’ve managed to upload 3.0.1 of PocketMoney to Apple tonight. Now it’s a 7-14 day wait for Apple to review it.

Here is the full bug fix and additions list:

  • Speed – Launch speed and navigation speed to transaction register and edit transaction screens improved.
  • Fixed bug: Pie Chart is active for category, payee, class account report from transaction register
  • Fixed bug: Reports and Budgets – fixed date period bugs so 31st of months are included correctly
  • Themes/UI add on expanded to include options for: Red Withdrawals, Black Deposits, Short Row Heights, Checkbox/Binder Ring
  • Fixed bug: Can’t select yearly budget
  • Added Available Funds balance type (was the old Available Balance) to go along with Available Credit
  • Reports keep the last used Report Period unless no transactions are found then it switches to All.
  • Fixed bug: Date chooser – in 6 week month the last week allowed clicks to fall through to toolbar buttons
  • Fixed bugs: Exporting CSV, TDF, QIF files
  • Fixed bug: Importing of QIF files
  • Fixed bug: Exported files now remove spaces in names which causes web browser in Windows to not be able to download the files.
  • Fixed bug: Rrestore from desktop using web browser restores prefs and sql file correctly
  • Fixed bug: Amounts not saving correctly (as 0) – mainly CHF currencies, but others as well.
  • Fixed bug: Cancel was saving.
  • Fixed bug: Balance not displaying Yearly time period
  • Fixed bug: Korean currency symbol not displaying
  • Fixed bug: If drill down into a report item, then go back, the filter isn’t restored.
  • Fixed bug: transferring money between accounts of different currencies duplicates part of transfer
  • Fixed bug: “New Transactions use last save date” is ON now uses the current time and last saved date.
  • Fixed bug: Charts had large memory leaks which could result in slow downs and random crashes.
  • Speed – payee autocomplete changes to make it faster
  • Second line of transaction register rows resize down to 9 point font to fit more data if available.
  • Fixed bug: Email exports set the last sync time so that Recent Changes will work with Email backups. (Note: using the web browser to back up does not set the last sync times since I’m not notified if the file was uploaded successfully)
  • Fixed bug: import of -34.00 or -$35.23 in tdf and csv files
  • Fixed bug: Long account name is cut off by exchange rate box
  • Import support for Ultrasoft Money Transaction Data.csv files. Rename file with a .ultrasoftCSV extension and then import like a regular .csv file
  • Localization: Added Korean
  • Localization: Japanese updates
