There are reviews, and then there are reviews. I enjoyed reading Patrick Jordon’s review of World Cup Trivia Challenge as much as he liked playing the game.

PocketMoney 2.4 now available on iPhone AppStore

Sunday, September 13th, 2009

I can’t believe I’m saying this about the AppStore review process, but I’m very impressed! I asked to have PocketMoney 2.4 to be receive high priority treatment due after I fixed bug that was caused by iPhone OS 3.1 update, and two days after submission it was approved. Myself and of course all my customers thank you!

The cool stuff added to 2.4:

- Search Bar!! Makes finding transactions easy*.
- Budgets now honor your Show Account View Setting so you can Show Total Worth accounts and only have those accounts included in the budget
- Address book support for Payee lookups
- 123 shown when keyboard is displayed (same with splits button)
- Hide the Custom items on the Account Balance screen

*Free form searches: Try entering >20, <20, -50...-100, =20 for amount field searches.

Here is the full list of the changes in version 2.4:

Oh what to do? iPhone 3.1 is broke PocketMoney’s auto complete feature

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

iPhone OS 3.1 was released yesterday. It is causing a bug in PocketMoney 2.3.2 when you try auto complete a transaction in the Payee field it hide the keyboard after every character is entered.

My issue is that I submitted version 2.4 of PocketMoney for review back on Sept 2nd which means it has been in the review process for 8 days now. If I fix the bug and resubmit today, then the review process will start all over. If I hold off then version 2.4 might be released today, tomorrow, or in the next week or two — you never know with Apple’s review process.

In the past I would have waited, but it seems review times are getting longer and longer so I’m in a quandary.

[Update: so I pulled 2.4 out of the review process tonight and resubmitted 2.4 with the fix for the keyboard issue. I also got a couple other fixes in there while I was at it. But it means that the review process is going to start all over again from the beginning. I did send an email to Apple to ask if they can prioritize the update since I had to pull it to fix a 3.1 OS issue.]

No camera for iPod Touch, but for Nano — lame

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

I can’t believe they added a video camera to the iPod Nano, but not to the iPod Touch. The Touch is the Palm/PDA replacement. It should have a camera. Sell a version of the Touch without a camera if they want to hit their magic $199 price point, but let others buy Touches who don’t have iPhones because they don’t want to switch to AT&T or for whatever reason. There are many uses for games and productivity applications to use a camera. I hope they add a camera soon.

I had a PocketMoney for Palm customer ask me what device he should get. He was looking at Windows Mobile devices to replace his Palm. He couldn’t get an iPhone because it wouldn’t work on his network. When I suggested getting an iPod Touch he was astounded to hear such a suggestion. It had never crossed his mind. A month later, I heard back from him and he had bought a Touch and he was loving it.

Apple also needs to market the iPod Touch more as a replacement for a netbook. They took a shot at Dell today in their press conference, but they need to let consumers know that they can go from a Palm/Windows Mobile to a Touch for all of their personal digital assistant needs.

Yes, there are rumors of a 10″ device coming, but a 10″ device is too big for many users, while the Touch is still a great size.
