FSP Chat 1.0

A simple multi-platform client/server chat program designed for auditorium style chats. A few people can be "On Stage" who can talk to everyone in the auditorium, but the audience is restricted to talking to just people in their row. This allows people that want to chatter away to chatter away with others in their row, but there will be rows that are quite so you can listen to the people on stage.

I wrote this for the weekly Free State Project chats, hence the name F.S.P. Chat.

Chat Directions

It is free software so here is all of the help that I will give non FSP members or non Catamount Software customers on the software.
  1. Run application
  2. Server Address: Enter the IP address or computer where the FSP Chat Server is running.
  3. Port: Leave the default alone, unless FSP Chat Server is using a different port.
  4. User Name: Enter a username.
  5. Connect: Click this after you sent the Server Address and User Name.
    1. Switch rows to chat with people in different rows.
    2. Double click on a person in the user list to send them a private message.
    3. Getting on stage - double click on a person in the user list, enter the stage password, and click Stage to put the person on stage.

Server Directions

  1. Run application
  2. Choose Manage Server from the File menu.
  3. Port: Leave the default alone, unless you need to change it for some reason. [If you are behind a firewall then you will need to open this port so others can connect to your machine.]
  4. Start Server: Press the button to start the server running on your computer.
  5. Server is running at address: Will show you what your IP address is so you can let others know how to connect to your server. [If this start with a 10., 172., or 192.168, then you are behind a router or connecting via modem and users on the internet won't be able to connect to your computer. Go to http://checkip.dyndns.org/ to find out your public IP address.
  6. Stage Password: Set this so that only people who know the password can get on stage.
